Worth a Visit -(으)ㄹ 만하다

a

A friend has one afternoon in your city. You recommend somewhere worth visiting, then explain what you noticed on your own visit. -(으)ㄹ 만하다 offers an evaluation; -던데 recalls an experience that supports the next thought.

Worth Doing, Good Enough to Try

Use -ㄹ 만하다 after a vowel or ㄹ and -을 만하다 after another consonant: 볼 만하다, 읽을 만하다. It can mean worthwhile, reasonably good, or manageable, depending on the activity and context. Leave a space before 만하다.

i bangmulgwaneun han beon ga bol manhaeyo.
This museum is worth visiting once.
i chaegeun chogeup haksaengdo ilgeul manhaeyo.
This book is manageable even for beginner students.

An Observation Leads to the Next Point

Attach -던데 to a verb or adjective stem, or -(이)던데 to a noun. You recall something you experienced, then offer a related thought, question, or contrast. -던데요 can leave that observation as a conversational turn on its own.

jumareneun sarami manteonde achime galkkayo?
I found it busy on weekends; shall we go in the morning?
jeonmangi joteonde changgae anjeullaeyo?
The view was good when I went; would you like a window seat?
Hint · 힌트
볼 만해요 can be a measured recommendation: “It is worth seeing.” It can also mean something is tolerable or reasonably good, so context and tone decide how enthusiastic the evaluation is.
