I Noticed, When I Did -았더니

a

You tried making food for friends over the holiday. Looking back, you can share an observation about the day, or explain how people responded to what you did. -던데요 remembers a scene; -았/었더니 connects an action with its observed result.

Recall a Scene for the Listener

Attach -던데요 to a verb or adjective stem to share a remembered observation. With nouns use -(이)던데요. Depending on context, it can carry surprise, background for a reply, or a gentle contrast with what the listener said.

geu sikdang eumsigi jeongmal masitdeondeyo.
I found the food at that restaurant really tasty.
akka jisuga geuphage nagadeondeyo.
I saw Jisu leaving in a hurry earlier.

Do Something, Observe the Result

Use the past form plus 더니: 만들었더니, 물어봤더니, 전화했더니. In this pattern the first clause commonly reports your own action, and the next gives a reaction, result, or discovery that followed.

chingudeurege japchaereul mandeureo jwotdeoni jeongmal joahaesseoyo.
I made japchae for my friends, and they really liked it.
samusire jeonhwahaetdeoni geumyoilkkaji sincheongharago haesseoyo.
I called the office, and they told me to apply by Friday.
Hint · 힌트
-더라고요 directly shares a remembered discovery. -던데요 often offers that memory as background or a response for the listener to take up. Their uses overlap; context and intonation matter.
