Looks Like, Like a Picture 모양이다
a
You see flowers outside a neighbour’s door and infer there is a celebration. Then you describe the room as pretty as a picture. 모양이다 makes an inference from clues; noun + 같이 makes a comparison.
Put the Clues Together
Use -는 모양이다 for present actions, -(으)ㄴ 모양이다 for completed actions and present adjectives, and -인 모양이다 after nouns. 있다/없다 use -는: 있는 모양이에요. The clue can be something seen or heard, rather than a direct statement of certainty.
mun ape kkochi manayo. sonnimi oneun moyangieyo.
There are lots of flowers by the door. It looks like guests are coming.
buri kkeojin geol boni modu nagan moyangieyo.
Judging by the lights being off, it seems everyone has gone out.
Like Something Else
The comparison particle 같이 attaches directly to a noun: 그림같이, 가족같이. It often overlaps with 처럼, though fixed expressions can favour one form. The separate adverb 같이, meaning together, is written with a space.
geosiri geurimgachi areumdawoyo.
The living room is as beautiful as a picture.
urineun gajokgachi jinaeyo.
We live like a family.
Hint · 힌트
가족같이 지내요 means live like a family. 가족과 같이 지내요 means live together with one’s family. The particle and spacing help show which job 같이 is doing.
