Keep at It, I Found -다 보면

a

You try a pottery class and find it unexpectedly calming. That is one experience you can report. If a friend keeps practising, they may discover their own benefits over time. Korean distinguishes the remembered discovery from the expected result of continuing.

Continue and See What Happens

Verb stem + -다 보면 describes a result or discovery that comes during continued or repeated activity: 연습하다 보면, 듣다 보면. The result often has a general or future reading. -다 보니까 can describe a result you have already reached through that process.

gyesok yeonseuphada bomyeon iksukhaejil geoyeyo.
If you keep practising, you’ll get used to it.
chaegeul ikda bomyeon sigani geumbang gayo.
When I get absorbed in reading, time passes quickly.

Report Your Own Discovery

Attach -더라고요 to a verb or adjective stem to recall something you directly observed or experienced. Nouns take -(이)더라고요. It shares the discovery with the listener rather than simply stating a general fact.

jikjeop hae bonikka saenggakboda jaemiitdeoragoyo.
When I tried it myself, I found it more fun than I expected.
geu kapeneun achimedo sarami manteoragoyo.
I found that café was busy even in the morning.
Hint · 힌트
Use -더라고요 for a remembered observation, rather than as a routine substitute for “I did.” Reporting your own deliberate action normally needs the ordinary past; describing a feeling you discovered through it can suit -더라고요.
