Planning To -려고 해요

a

You’re moving next month and already making plans: 다음 달에 이사하려고 해요. Attach -(으)려고 하다 to an action verb to express an intention or plan. The stem ending determines whether -려고 or -으려고 comes next.

jejudoe garyeogo haeyo.
I plan to go to Jeju Island.
cheongbajireul ibeuryeogo haeyo.
I intend to wear jeans.
chaegeul mani ilgeuryeogo haeyo.
I plan to read many books.
Hint · 힌트
-(으)려고 해요 foregrounds an intention: 여행을 가려고 해요, “I intend to travel.” -(으)ㄹ 거예요 can announce a plan or make a prediction. Neither ending tells us whether a ticket has been booked. For a more tentative idea, compare -(으)ㄹ까 해요.
bibimbabeul mandeullyeogo haeyo.
I plan to make bibimbap.
hosueseo baereul taryeogo haeyo.
I plan to ride a boat on the lake.
ibeon hyugae yeohaengeul garyeogo haeyo.
I plan to go on a trip this vacation.
Hint · 힌트
Use -려고 after a vowel or ㄹ: 가려고, 만들려고. Use -으려고 after another consonant: 먹으려고, 읽으려고. The ㄹ in 만들다 stays here, unlike before endings such as -는 or -세요.
