Going To -ㄹ 거예요
a
Your friend asks what you’ll do tomorrow: 내일 친구를 만날 거예요. Use -(으)ㄹ 거예요 for a future plan or expectation. Vowel- and ㄹ-ending stems take -ㄹ 거예요; most consonant-ending stems take -을 거예요.
ibeon jumare mwo hal geoyeyo?
What are you going to do this weekend?
baekhwajeomeseo syopinghal geoyeyo.
I'm going to shop at the department store.
jeonyeoge chaegeul ilgeul geoyeyo.
I will read a book in the evening.
Hint · 힌트
고 싶어요 states a desire: “I want to travel.” 여행을 갈 거예요 presents travel as the speaker’s future plan. This is a difference in what is being asserted; either person may still have practical details to settle.
gongwoneseo jajeongeoreul tal geoyeyo.
I'm going to ride a bike in the park.
naeil sinbareul sal geoyeyo.
I will buy shoes tomorrow.
badaeseo suyeonghal geoyeyo.
I'm going to swim in the ocean.
Hint · 힌트
The same ending covers predictions too, not just personal plans. 내일 비가 올 거예요, “it will probably rain tomorrow,” uses the identical grammar even though weather doesn’t have intentions. Anything you’re stating with confidence about the future, plan or forecast, reaches for -(으)ㄹ 거예요.
