Thinking of It -까 하다

a

You are browsing flats without committing to a move yet. “I’m thinking of moving” keeps the plan open. “As long as it isn’t too far away” names the one condition you want to avoid.

A Plan You Are Considering

Use -ㄹ까 하다 after a vowel or ㄹ, -을까 하다 after another consonant: 이사할까 해요, 먹을까 해요. It expresses a tentative intention. Compare -(으)려고 해요, which presents a more formed intention; context still matters more than a fixed scale of certainty.

daeum dare isahalkka haeyo.
I’m thinking of moving next month.
jumareneun jibeseo swilkka haeyo.
I’m thinking of resting at home this weekend.

Exclude One Unwanted Condition

Stem + -지만 않으면 means as long as it does not happen or is not that way: 멀지만 않으면, 비가 오지만 않으면. It combines -지 않다 with 만 and -(으)면. For nouns use noun + 만 아니면.

hakgyoeseo neomu meoljiman aneumyeon gwaenchanayo.
It’s fine as long as it isn’t too far from school.
jihaman animyeon dwaeyo.
It’s fine as long as it isn’t a basement.
Hint · 힌트
The negative is essential. 멀지만 않으면 sets aside the unwanted condition “far away.” It does not mean “only if it is far away.”
