Finish First, I’ll Handle It -고 나서

a

You and your housemate are dividing the chores. First finish the washing-up, then clean the floor. “I’ll do this, so please do that” turns two jobs into an agreement.

Finish the First Step

Verb stem + -고 나서 places the next action after the first has been completed: 씻고 나서, 먹고 나서. It makes completion clearer than a simple -고 list. -(으)ㄴ 후에 can often describe the same sequence.

seolgeojireul hago naseo badageul dakkayo.
I wash the dishes, then wipe the floor.
cheongsohago naseo gachi swieoyo.
We rest together after cleaning.

Make Your Part the Basis for a Request

-(으)ㄹ 테니까 combines a plan or expectation with a reason for what follows. With a first-person commitment: 제가 청소할 테니까…. With a prediction: 비가 올 테니까…. Use -ㄹ after a vowel or ㄹ and -을 after another consonant.

jega geosireul cheongsohal tenikka jubangeul butakhaeyo.
I’ll clean the living room, so please take care of the kitchen.
biga ol tenikka usaneul gajyeogaseyo.
It will probably rain, so take an umbrella.
Hint · 힌트
With a promise, -ㄹ 테니까 invites the listener to act on your commitment. It does not guarantee that every prediction made with the same ending is certain.
