Used To, Only This -았는데
a
An old photo shows long hair; today you keep it short. -는데 can set the earlier picture beside the present one. 밖에 narrows a statement to the one thing or amount left.
Put Two Pictures Side by Side
You have used -는데 for background. It also supports a contrast: 예전에는 길었는데 지금은 짧아요. Use -는데 for present action verbs, -(으)ㄴ데 for adjectives, and -았/었는데 for the past. Nouns take -인데.
yejeoneneun meoriga gireonneunde jigeumeun jjalbayo.
My hair used to be long, but now it is short.
dongsaengeun joyonghande jeoneun mari manayo.
My younger sibling is quiet, but I talk a lot.
Only This Much Remains
Put 밖에 after a noun or quantity and follow it with a negative expression: 하나밖에 없어요, 한국어밖에 못 해요. The whole sentence means only that much is available or possible. 만 can appear with an affirmative verb; 밖에 needs the negative partner.
sigani sip bunbakke eopseoyo.
I only have ten minutes.
jeoneun hangugeobakke mot haeyo.
I can only speak Korean.
Hint · 힌트
Inside a room and outside a room use location nouns: 방 안에, 방 밖에. The limiting particle in 십 분밖에 없어요 attaches directly to the quantity and belongs with a negative.
