Heard From, Found Out 에게서

a

You thought a classmate was quiet, until you worked together and discovered how funny she is. Tell us who gave you information, then use -(으)니까 to show what you found when you did something.

Where the Information Came From

에게서 and the conversational 한테서 mark a person as the source of something received or heard. With someone you honour, 께 can mark the source too. For a place or organisation use 에서, rather than 에게서.

marihanteseo geu iyagireul deureosseoyo.
I heard that story from Mari.
seonsaengnimkke hangugeoreul baewosseoyo.
I learned Korean from my teacher.

An Action Leads to a Discovery

The same -(으)니까 shape used for a reason can introduce a discovery: 만나 보니까 재미있었어요. In this use, an action in the first clause creates the opportunity to observe the second. The first action is commonly left without -았/었-; the main clause can place the discovery in the past.

gachi ilhae bonikka jeongmal chinjeolhaesseoyo.
When I tried working with them, I found they were really kind.
changmuneul yeonikka siwonhan barami deureowasseoyo.
When I opened the window, a cool breeze came in.
Hint · 힌트
창문을 여니까 shows 열다 losing ㄹ before ㄴ. The discovery reading comes from the sequence of experience and observation; -(으)니까 has not stopped being a reason connector in other contexts.
