Both This and That 不是
“It’s not the blue folder, but the green one.” “The new café is both quiet and cozy.” 不是……而是…… replaces the mistaken idea; 既……又…… gives two details that are true at once. Listen for whether the speaker is correcting or adding.
她不是星期天来找我，而是星期一来找我。
tā bú shì Xīngqītiān lái zhǎo wǒ， érshì Xīngqīyī lái zhǎo wǒ。
She came to see me on Monday, not Sunday.
我们既不知道，也没听说过这件事。
wǒmen jì bùzhī dào， yě méi tīngshuō guò zhè jiàn shì。
We neither knew nor had heard about this.
他今天又来了。
tā jīntiān yòu lái le。
He came again today.
我也不是。
wǒ yě bùshì。
