First This, Then That 首先
First, explain the problem; next, give the reason. That’s 首先……其次…… organising an explanation. 于是 does another job: it moves the story forward to what happened as a result.
首先，我们要准备好，然后再出发。
shǒuxiān， wǒmen yào zhǔnbèi hǎo， ránhòu zài chūfā。
First, we should get ready, then set out.
第一，我没时间；其次，我不想去。
dì-yī， wǒ méi shíjiān； qícì， wǒ bù xiǎng qù。
First, I don’t have time; second, I don’t want to go.
他觉得她说得很有道理，于是接受了她的建议。
tā juéde tā shuō dehěn yǒudàoli， yúshì jiēshòu le tā de jiànyì。
He thought what she said made a lot of sense, so he took her advice.
