As Soon as You Get Home 一…就

You text a friend: “I’ll call you as soon as I get home.” Put 一 before the first action and 就 before what happens right after it. The two actions can have the same subject or different ones.

我一到家就给你打电话。
wǒ yí dào jiā jiù gěi nǐ dǎ diànhuà.
I’ll call you as soon as I get home.
他一听到这个消息就笑了。
tā yì tīngdào zhège xiāoxi jiù xiào le.
As soon as he heard the news, he laughed.
孩子们一看见老师,就跑过去了。
háizimen yí kànjiàn lǎoshī, jiù pǎo guòqù le.
As soon as the children saw the teacher, they ran over.
你一按这个按钮,灯就亮了。
nǐ yí àn zhège ànniǔ, dēng jiù liàng le.
As soon as you press this button, the light comes on.
Hint · 힌트
一 and 就 frame the two events in order: the first happens, then the second follows at once. The subject may change after 就, as it does in the example about the children and their teacher.
