Leave It Open; Try It Once

Someone has left the window open, so you mention its current state. Later, your friend asks whether you’ve ever visited Hong Kong. Chinese uses different markers for these ideas: 着 keeps a state in view, while 过 tells about past experience.

chuānghu kāi zhe, wàimiàn hěn lěng.
The window is open, and it’s cold outside.
tā chuān zhe yí jiàn hóngsè wàitào.
She’s wearing a red coat.
wǒ qù guo Xiānggǎng liǎng cì.
I’ve been to Hong Kong twice.
nǐ chī guo Běijīng kǎoyā ma?
Have you ever tried Beijing roast duck?
Hint · 힌트
着 describes the state you can observe now; it doesn’t usually tell you when that state began. 过 asks whether an experience has happened at least once before. It commonly follows the verb and can pair with a frequency such as 两次.
