First This, Then That 先…再
先……再…… lays out steps in the order you should do them. If the order is already clear from context, Chinese can simply place one action before the next without either linker.
我先学习两个多小时，然后再去睡觉。
wǒ xiān xuéxí liǎng gè duō xiǎoshí， ránhòu zài qù shuìjiào。
I’ll study for a little over two hours, then go to bed.
他们不知道先做什么。
tāmen bù zhīdào xiān zuò shénme。
They didn't know what to do first.
我不知道他什么时候会再来的。
wǒ bù zhīdào tā shénme shíhou huì zài lái de。
I don't know when he'll come again.
