Both, Before, and After例 · 太晚了

You’re deciding how to get across town, describing someone you admire, then explaining your evening routine. These handy patterns let you recommend one choice, pair two qualities, and show when one event happens in relation to another.

太晚了,我们还是坐出租车吧。
tài wǎn le, wǒmen háishi zuò chūzūchē ba.
It’s late; we’d better take a taxi.
她又聪明又热心,大家都喜欢她。
tā yòu cōngming yòu rèxīn, dàjiā dōu xǐhuan tā.
She’s both clever and warm-hearted, so everyone likes her.
吃饭以前,先洗洗手。
chīfàn yǐqián, xiān xǐxi shǒu.
Wash your hands before eating.
下课以后,我去超市买东西。
xiàkè yǐhòu, wǒ qù chāoshì mǎi dōngxi.
After class, I’m going to the supermarket to buy a few things.
Hint · 힌트
还是……吧 softens a recommendation. 又……又…… links two qualities that are both true. 以前 and 以后 can go before a noun or a short clause to mean “before” and “after.”
