More and More, and Things Like That例 · 天气越来越热了

You’ve been studying Chinese for a few months, and you notice you’re understanding more each week. Use 越来越 before an adjective or verb phrase for a change that continues to grow. For a casual list that doesn’t need every item, finish with 什么的 (“and things like that”).

天气越来越热了。
tiānqì yuèláiyuè rè le.
The weather is getting hotter and hotter.
他汉语说得越来越好了。
tā Hànyǔ shuō de yuèláiyuè hǎo le.
His Chinese is getting better and better.
我买了水果、面包什么的。
wǒ mǎi le shuǐguǒ, miànbāo shénme de.
I bought fruit, bread, and things like that.
周末我们去公园、看电影什么的。
zhōumò wǒmen qù gōngyuán, kàn diànyǐng shénme de.
At the weekend we go to the park, see a film, and things like that.
Hint · 힌트
越来越 describes an ongoing change: it’s becoming more and more a certain way. 什么的 comes after examples in a list, so the listener understands there are other similar things you haven’t named.
