Even So, I’ll Help -아/어 드리다

a

You are busy, but you still want to help your teacher carry some books. -아/어도 says the result holds despite a condition. -아/어 드리다 describes doing the favour for someone you honour.

Despite That Condition

Add 도 to the -아/어 form: 바빠도, 먹어도, 해도. It can mean even if for a hypothetical condition or even though for a known fact. 아무리 strengthens the idea: 아무리 바빠도, “however busy I am.” Nouns take 이어도/여도.

amuri bappado achimeun meogeoyo.
However busy I am, I eat breakfast.
biga wado haengsae gal geoyeyo.
Even if it rains, I’ll go to the event.

A Favour for Someone You Honour

Use the -아/어 form plus 드리다 instead of -아/어 주다 when the beneficiary is someone you honour: 읽어 드리다, 보내 드리다. 께 can mark that person. The subject is the helper, so you do not add -(으)시- simply to honour yourself.

seonsaengnimkke chaegeul gajyeoda deuryeosseoyo.
I took the books to my teacher.
jega sayong bangbeobeul seolmyeonghae deurilgeyo.
I’ll explain how to use it for you.
Hint · 힌트
드리다 honours the recipient of the favour. -(으)시- honours the subject doing an action. If your grandmother makes something for you, 할머니가 만들어 주셨어요 honours her without treating you as the honoured beneficiary.
