a

The coat is hanging by the door: 코트가 문 옆에 걸려 있어요. Active verbs like 놓다 and 걸다 describe placing or hanging something. Their passive forms 놓이다 and 걸리다 combine with -아/어 있다 to describe the state left afterward: 놓여 있어요, 걸려 있어요.

kkotbyeongi teibeul wie noyeo isseoyo.

Hint · 힌트
있어요 is enough when the location is what matters: 꽃병이 테이블 위에 있어요. 놓여 있어요 adds how it is placed, while 걸려 있어요 describes something hanging. Add the detail when it helps the listener picture or find the object.

Hint · 힌트
The split isn’t about size or weight, it’s about orientation. Anything resting flat on a surface is 놓여 있다; anything suspended from something is 걸려 있다. A clock lying on a table is 놓여 있어요; the same clock mounted on the wall is 걸려 있어요.
