Not Only, Makes Me -게 하다

a

A walk can help your body and lift your mood. “Not only” adds a second benefit; -게 하다 tells us what causes someone to act or feel a certain way.

Add Another Point

Use -(으)ㄹ 뿐만 아니라 with verbs and adjectives: 좋을 뿐만 아니라, 도울 뿐만 아니라. Nouns take 뿐만 아니라 directly: 운동뿐만 아니라. Despite the ㄹ shape, the phrase can describe a current fact rather than a future event.

geotgineun geongange joeul ppunman anira gibundo joajige haeyo.
Walking is not only good for your health; it also improves your mood.
i eumsigeun masisseul ppunman anira mandeulgido swiwoyo.
This food is not only tasty but also easy to make.

Cause or Allow a Result

Verb or adjective stem + -게 하다 describes causing, arranging, or allowing an action or state: 웃게 하다, 편안하게 하다. Context determines whether someone is made to do something or allowed to do it. The person affected can be marked with 을/를 or, with action verbs, 에게.

geu iyagineun jeoreul utge haesseoyo.
That story made me laugh.
seonsaengnimeun haksaengdeurege meonjeo iyagihage hasyeosseoyo.
The teacher let the students speak first.
Hint · 힌트
Compare -게 되다, which focuses on arriving at a changed situation. -게 하다 names something or someone bringing that result about: 웃게 됐어요 versus 저를 웃게 했어요.
