I Can’t Stop Thinking About the Results てしょうがない・ようがない
You cannot stop worrying about tomorrow’s presentation, no matter how often you check your notes. てしょうがない describes a feeling that is hard to contain; ようがない says there is no way to do something.
These patterns express intensity and limits. てしょうがない, てたまらない, and てならない say a feeling is so strong it cannot be helped; ないではいられない and ずにはいられない say the speaker cannot stop themselves from acting. て当然だ says an outcome is only natural. ようがない means there is no way to do something, often because the method or information is missing. さすが marks something as “just what you’d expect”; だけのことはある and だけあって recognize that a result matches someone’s effort or reputation. ものがある expresses a noticeable quality or strong impression. 何といっても emphasizes the most important point, を込めて means “putting a feeling into” an action or object, and 甲斐がある says effort was worthwhile. がち means prone to or often tends to; ぎみ means slightly or somewhat. っぽい describes a quality that seems characteristic, sometimes with a critical tone.
てしょうがない (also てしかたがない) follows a feeling or state and expresses an overwhelming intensity. It is stronger than simply saying 気になる and often describes something the speaker cannot control.
てたまらない is very close to てしょうがない and often describes a strong physical or emotional feeling. てならない tends to sound more written or reflective: 不思議でならない, “I can’t help finding it strange.”
て当然だ presents a result as expected or justified by the circumstances. さすが can praise a result that matches a reputation: さすがプロだ, “that’s what you’d expect of a pro.” だけのことはある similarly says a result reflects someone’s effort or ability.
Verb stem + ようがない means no method exists to do something. It differs from できない, which states inability without explaining that the method is unavailable.
