When One Thing Outdoes Another例 · 比起这幅画来

The new model is lighter than last year’s; the formal report calls its performance superior. 比起……（来） frames one option against another; 形容词+于 makes a compact written comparison; 比……还…… can say one thing even exceeds a benchmark.

比起这幅画来，那幅画的色彩鲜艳多了。
bǐqǐ zhè fú huà lái, nà fú huà de sècǎi xiānyàn duō le.
Compared with this painting, that one has much brighter colors.
他们没来这里，是吗？
tāmen méi lái zhèlǐ， shì ma？
They didn't come here, did they?
学校坐落于车站附近，步行五分钟就能到。
xuéxiào zuòluò yú chēzhàn fùjìn, bùxíng wǔ fēnzhōng jiù néng dào.
The school is located near the station, a five-minute walk away.
我们的饭店比那家饭店好。
wǒmen de fàndiàn bǐ nà jiā fàndiàn hǎo。
Our restaurant is better than that restaurant.
