When It Lands on You 到…头上

When a problem, duty, or unwanted situation suddenly lands on someone, use 到……头上来了. The person affected comes before 头上; the thing that lands there comes first.

Hear the Pattern in Context

这件麻烦事怎么落到我头上来了?
Zhè jiàn máfan shì zěnme luò dào wǒ tóu shàng lái le?
How did this troublesome matter land on me?
责任怎么又落到我头上来了?
Zérèn zěnme yòu luò dào wǒ tóu shàng lái le?
How did the responsibility land on me again?
Hint · 힌트
头上 is literal in other contexts, but in this expression it means the person has been made responsible for something. The tone often carries surprise or annoyance.
In Real Life
You can use the pattern for an unexpected task, blame, or expense: the situation arrives “on someone’s head,” whether they asked for it or not.
