Helped Him, Blamed Me 反而
He didn’t thank her for the help; he blamed her instead. 不但不/没有……反而…… sets up an expectation, then turns it around. 不是……还…… adds an unexpected fact, and 连……都/也 marks an extreme case that strengthens the point.
他反而更忙了。
tā fǎn'ér gèng máng le.
On the contrary, he got even busier.
她还是个孩子的时候，唱歌很好听。
tā háishi ge háizi de shíhou， chànggē hěn hǎotīng。
She sang beautifully when she was a child.
你还记得我的生日，那真是太好了。
nǐ hái jìde wǒ de shēngrì， nà zhēn shì tài hǎo le。
It’s really great that you still remember my birthday.
那是一个许多人连听也没有听过的小国。
nà shì yí ge xǔduō rén lián tīng yě méiyǒu tīng guo de xiǎo guó。
