Listen, Then React 连动句

Your friend hears some surprising news, searches for an address, and then asks you for help. Chinese can place two verb phrases together to show a cause and its result, a contrast, or a condition. Let the relationship between the actions guide the listener.

听了这个消息,他高兴得跳了起来。
tīng le zhège xiāoxi, tā gāoxìng de tiào le qǐlai.
Hearing the news, he was so happy that he jumped up.
我找了半天,还是没找到那家店。
wǒ zhǎo le bàntiān, háishi méi zhǎodào nà jiā diàn.
I searched for ages, but still couldn’t find that shop.
你有时间就来我家坐坐,我们一起吃饭。
nǐ yǒu shíjiān jiù lái wǒ jiā zuòzuo, wǒmen yìqǐ chīfàn.
If you have time, come by my place and have a meal with us.
她站起来走到窗边,打开窗户透透气。
tā zhàn qǐlai zǒu dào chuāngbiān, dǎkāi chuānghu tou tou qì.
She stood up, walked to the window, and opened it for some fresh air.
Hint · 힌트
The first verb phrase sets up the next one: hearing brings a reaction, searching fails to find the place, and having time makes the visit possible. Keep the same subject through a serial verb sequence unless the sentence gives a clear reason to change it.
