We Did Go, But… X是X

“It is expensive, I’ll give you that—but the view is worth it.” X是X acknowledges the first point, then leaves room for a qualification or pushback. The second clause tells the listener how the speaker feels about that drawback.

那就是我等的人。
nà jiù shì wǒ děng de rén。
That’s the person I’m waiting for.
我在电视上看到过他,不过没有看到过他本人。
wǒ zài diànshì shàng kàndào guò tā, bùguò méiyǒu kàndào guò tā běnrén。
I have seen him on TV but not in the flesh.
是我的,不是他的。
shì wǒ de, bùshì tā de。
It's mine, not his.
