While This, While That 一边…一边

The weather can shift from sunny to cloudy and back again: 一会儿晴，一会儿阴. That’s different from two actions happening at once (一边……一边……) or laying out two sides of an issue (一方面……另一方面……). The repeated word tells you how the parts relate.

一方面，这份工作很累；另一方面，也很有意思。
yì fāngmiàn， zhè fèn gōngzuò hěn lèi； lìng yì fāngmiàn， yě hěn yǒu yìsi。
On one hand, this job is tiring; on the other hand, it’s interesting.
我们觉得他一会儿就回来了。
wǒmen juéde tā yíhuìr jiù huílái le。
We think he’ll be back soon.
一方面，他很忙；另一方面，他很累。
yì fāngmiàn， tā hěn máng； lìng yì fāngmiàn， tā hěn lèi。
On the one hand, he is very busy; on the other, he is very tired.
我也不是。
wǒ yě bùshì。
Nor am I.
