A Little Cheaper, Just as Big

You’re choosing between two cafés. One is cheaper, but the other is just as close. Chinese has a few everyday ways to compare: 比 marks “more/less than,” 不如 says one option doesn’t measure up, and 跟……一样 means “the same as.”

zhè jiā diàn bǐ nà jiā diàn piányi shí kuài qián.
This shop is ten yuan cheaper than that one.
jīntiān bǐ zuótiān lěng sān dù.
It’s three degrees colder today than yesterday.
zuò dìtiě bùrú zuò gōngjiāo fāngbiàn.
Taking the subway isn’t as convenient as taking the bus.
zhè ge fángjiān gēn nà ge fángjiān yíyàng dà.
This room is the same size as that one.
Hint · 힌트
In a 比 sentence, say the quality first and the amount of difference after it: 便宜十块 (“ten yuan cheaper”). Don’t add 很 before the adjective in this pattern.
