Finish It, Head Out, Speak Clearly例 · 我看完这本书以后

A complement after the verb tells you what the action achieves or how it happens. 看完 says the reading reached its end; 走出去 gives a direction; 说得清楚 describes how clearly someone speaks. The verb and its complement work as one unit.

我看完这本书以后,就把它还给图书馆了。

Result complements such as 完、好、懂 say what became true after an action. Directional complements such as 出来 show movement. For a manner description, use 得 between the verb and the describing phrase: 说得很清楚.
