If It Rains, We’ll Stay In例 · 如果下雨

You’re planning a picnic and checking the weather: if it rains, you’ll stay in; if it clears, you’ll go; and if your friend brings snacks, even better. Chinese linkers show whether the next clause gives a condition, a contrast, or an added point. The examples let you hear those relationships in ordinary plans.

如果下雨,我们就在家看电影。
rúguǒ xiàyǔ, wǒmen jiù zài jiā kàn diànyǐng.
If it rains, we’ll watch a film at home.
虽然今天很忙,但是我会早点回来。
suīrán jīntiān hěn máng, dànshì wǒ huì zǎodiǎn huílai.
Although I’m busy today, I’ll come back early.
这家店不但便宜,而且离我家很近。
zhè jiā diàn búdàn piányi, érqiě lí wǒ jiā hěn jìn.
This shop is not only cheap, but also close to my home.
我们坐地铁或者坐公交都可以。
wǒmen zuò dìtiě huòzhě zuò gōngjiāo dōu kěyǐ.
We can take either the subway or the bus.
Hint · 힌트
如果 often introduces a condition and 就 marks its result. 虽然 sets up a contrast, while 而且 adds another point. 或者 normally offers alternatives in a statement; questions offering a choice usually use 还是.
