There Is, There Are 有
有 means “have” when the subject possesses something, and it introduces existence when the place comes first: 桌子上有一本书. In an existence sentence, the new or indefinite thing typically follows 有.
Examples
我有一个弟弟。
Wǒ yǒu yí ge dìdi.
I have a younger brother.
教室里有很多学生。
Jiàoshì lǐ yǒu hěn duō xuésheng.
There are many students in the classroom.
桌子上有一杯水。
Zhuōzi shàng yǒu yì bēi shuǐ.
There is a cup of water on the table.
Hint · 힌트
For “there is/are,” put the place first and the thing after 有. This differs from English there-sentences.
