Even Experts Get It Wrong といえども・とはいえ・ならまだしも
These advanced connectors concede a point while keeping the main claim in place. といえども means “even though one is,” often against an expected standard; とはいえ acknowledges a qualification before returning to the main point; ならまだしも says one case might be acceptable, but another is not. たところで says that even if an action happens, the result will not change. Each pattern narrows what the concession allows.
といえども follows a noun or plain form and emphasizes that the statement remains true despite the status or circumstances just mentioned. It is formal and often appears in writing or speeches.
とはいえ concedes the preceding fact, then introduces a qualification. ならまだしも compares cases: “A would be one thing, but B is different.” たところで often appears with a negative or dismissive result: 今さら急いだところで間に合わない, “Even if we hurry now, we won’t make it.”
