With or Without あり・なし

Attach あり or なし to a noun to label whether a feature or service is included: 保証あり, “with a warranty”; 予約なし, “without a reservation.” These short labels are common on signs, menus, forms, and product listings.

なし follows the item that is absent, often with で when describing what can be done without it. あり marks an included feature or option: 保証ありなら、安心です, “If it comes with a warranty, that’s reassuring.”

In casual conversation, ありだ means an idea is acceptable or worth considering; なしだ means it is out of the question or not acceptable. This use is informal and should be avoided in formal notices.

In Real Life
When comparing a service or purchase, 送料あり・送料なし makes the shipping charge clear at a glance. With friends, その案もありだね is a relaxed way to say “that idea could work too.”
Hint · 힌트
For labels, read あり / なし as “included / not included.” In conversation, ありだ / なしだ evaluates whether an idea is acceptable, so context changes the translation.
