Even a Name Is Enough; That’s the Key さえ・こそ・くらい

は~くらいです gives a modest estimate or approximate example: “as little as / only about…” The context determines whether the amount feels small, large, or sufficient.

さえ, こそ, くらい, ことか, and ことに add emphasis in different ways. さえ means “even,” often identifying the minimum needed for something to be true. こそ puts a spotlight on the marked word: “this is exactly the one.” くらい can describe an extreme degree (“so much that…”). ことか expresses a strong feeling, often in rhetorical exclamation. ことに highlights the speaker’s evaluation of a situation, as in 驚いたことに, “surprisingly.”

さえ often marks a minimum condition or an unexpected example. こそ marks the focus more strongly: 今こそ始めよう, “now is exactly the time to begin.” It does not always imply that other options are impossible; it emphasizes the chosen one.

くらい can mark the extent of a result: 立てないくらい疲れた, “I was so tired I couldn’t stand.” ことか turns a feeling into an emphatic rhetorical exclamation. ことに commonly follows an adjective in its adverbial form to frame an evaluation: 不思議なことに, “strangely.”

In Real Life
さえ can make a task seem easy by naming the smallest requirement: 電源を入れさえすれば使える, “you only need to turn on the power.” こそ instead gives strong focus to the reason or person that matters most: あなたこそ必要です, “you are exactly who we need.”
Hint · 힌트
Unexpected “even” or minimum condition: さえ. Strong focus: こそ. To the extent that: くらい. “How very…”: ことか. Evaluation lead-in: ことに.
