What I Want From You 〜てほしい
Your friend keeps forgetting an umbrella, so you ask them to bring one tomorrow: 明日、傘を持ってきてほしいです. てほしい puts the wish on someone else’s action.
I want Naoki to eat more vegetables.
I want Saya to come quickly.
Hint · 힌트
The person you want something from is marked with に, not は or が. This lines up with たい, which you already know describes wanting to do something yourself, while てほしい flips the direction: someone else is the one doing the action, and に marks who that someone else is.
I want my children to get into a good university.
I don't want you to worry too much.
Hint · 힌트
ほしい conjugates like any other い-adjective attached at the end, ほしくない for the negative, ほしかった for the past, ほしくなかった for the past negative, exactly the pattern you already learned for 欲しい itself.
