What I'm Dying To Do たい
You see a friend heading to the beach and wish you could go too: 海に行きたいです. Add たい to a verb stem to say you want to do it.
I want to eat sushi this weekend.
I want to see a friend this weekend.
Hint · 힌트
たい conjugates like an い-adjective from here on: 食べたい becomes 食べたくない (don’t want to), 食べたかった (wanted to), 食べたくなかった (didn’t want to). None of that borrows from 食べる’s own conjugation pattern, たい runs on its own rules once it’s attached.
I want to cook this weekend, but I don't want to clean.
I didn't want to go to work yesterday.
Hint · 힌트
たい is only for your own wants, stated directly, the same restriction Korean’s 고 싶다 has. Talking about someone else’s want needs a different shape entirely, たがっている, not just swapping the subject into a たい sentence.
Tanaka wants to watch a movie this weekend.
