Follow the River North例 · 沿着这条河往北走
The path follows the river until the old bridge comes into view. 沿（着） names the route or line something follows. Put the road, river, or other path after 沿, then say what moves or happens along it.
沿着这条河往北走，前面就是老城区。
yánzhe zhè tiáo hé wǎng běi zǒu, qiánmiàn jiù shì lǎochéngqū.
Follow this river north, and you’ll reach the old town.
大家沿海岸线走了一个多小时，终于看到了灯塔。
dàjiā yán hǎiànxiàn zǒu le yí ge duō xiǎoshí, zhōngyú kàn dào le dēngtǎ.
Everyone walked along the coastline for over an hour and finally saw the lighthouse.
孩子们沿着墙边排好队，等老师发午餐。
háizimen yánzhe qiángbiān pái hǎo duì, děng lǎoshī fā wǔcān.
The children lined up along the wall and waited for the teacher to hand out lunch.
Hint · 힌트
沿着 names the path you follow. A location phrase such as 在这里 tells where you are, but does not express a route.
