We Can Walk or Take the Bus 或者
It’s raining, so you and a friend are deciding how to get to the cinema. Use 或者 to lay out possible choices in a statement. When you ask someone to choose between options, use 还是 instead.
我们可以坐公交车，或者打车去电影院。
wǒmen kěyǐ zuò gōngjiāochē, huòzhě dǎ chē qù diànyǐngyuàn.
We can take the bus or a taxi to the cinema.
周末你可以在家休息，或者跟朋友出去走走。
zhōumò nǐ kěyǐ zài jiā xiūxi, huòzhě gēn péngyou chūqù zǒuzou.
At the weekend, you can rest at home or go out with a friend.
报名可以在网上填，或者到办公室拿表格。
bàomíng kěyǐ zài wǎngshàng tián, huòzhě dào bàngōngshì ná biǎogé.
You can register online or pick up a form at the office.
这道菜可以放香菜，或者加一点儿辣椒。
zhè dào cài kěyǐ fàng xiāngcài, huòzhě jiā yìdiǎnr làjiāo.
You can add cilantro to this dish or put in a little chili.
Hint · 힌트
或者 introduces an option inside a statement or suggestion. For a direct question such as “Tea or coffee?”, place 还是 between the choices instead.
