A Laugh in a Message例 · 哈哈

Your friend sends a photo of their cat sitting inside a shopping bag. A quick 哈哈 tells them you found it funny. In texts and casual messages, this sound-word works like a short laugh; you can also put it before a comment to keep the tone friendly.

哈哈,这只猫怎么跑到袋子里了?
hāhā, zhè zhī māo zěnme pǎo dào dàizi lǐ le?
Haha, how did this cat get into the bag?
你也忘了带伞?哈哈,我昨天也忘了。
nǐ yě wàng le dài sǎn? hāhā, wǒ zuótiān yě wàng le.
You forgot your umbrella too? Ha, I forgot mine yesterday.
哈哈,原来我们坐错车了。
hāhā, yuánlái wǒmen zuò cuò chē le.
Ha, turns out we got on the wrong bus.
听完这个笑话,大家都哈哈大笑。
tīng wán zhè ge xiàohua, dàjiā dōu hāhā dàxiào.
After hearing the joke, everyone burst out laughing.
Hint · 힌트
哈哈 can stand alone as a short written laugh or lead into a light comment. In speech, it doesn’t replace a spoken laugh; it’s especially common in texts and online chat.
