How About This? -는 게 어때요?
a
Your friend is tired, so you suggest a break: 잠깐 쉬는 게 어때요? Attach -는 게 어때요? to an action to offer a suggestion. It is a gentle “How about…?” rather than a command.
geureom ttatteuthan mureul masineun ge eottaeyo?
Then how about drinking some warm water?
mani georeoseo dariga apayo. jom anneun ge eottaeyo?
My legs hurt from walking a lot. How about sitting down for a bit?
Hint · 힌트
Put the proposed action in its -는 form: 먹다 → 먹는 게 어때요?, 쉬다 → 쉬는 게 어때요? The action itself does not need to be conjugated to match the speaker; the final 어때요? carries the politeness.
bangi jijeobunhaeyo. maeil sip buns sik cheongsohaneun ge eottaeyo?
The room is messy. How about cleaning for ten minutes every day?
In Real Life
In real life, this is a natural response when someone mentions a problem: repeat the situation briefly, then offer an option with -는 게 어때요? Your tone and relationship still matter, but the grammar itself frames it as a suggestion.
