Playing the Part として
On the volunteer form, you write that you’re working as a guide: ガイドとして働いています. として follows a noun to name the role or capacity someone is acting in.
に代わって means “in place of / on behalf of,” emphasizing that one person or thing substitutes for another: 部長に代わって挨拶する, “give the greeting on behalf of the department head.” It names a replacement relationship rather than a role someone holds.
ふりをする means “to pretend,” acting as if something were true: 寝たふりをする, “pretend to be asleep.” Unlike として, it describes a deliberate appearance that may not match reality.
としては means “as for someone in that role” or “for a person at that level.” It introduces a viewpoint linked to a role, rather than simply naming the capacity: 初心者としては十分上手だ, “for a beginner, that’s very skillful.”
